WEIGHTED BLANKETS

What are weighted blankets and why are they helpful?

Weighted blankets are a comfort to individuals with autism, sensory processing disorder, anxiety, Tourette's syndrome, ADHD and can enhance a person's quality of sleep by reducing anxiety and agitation.

Weighted lap pads are an excellent tool to improve focus and concentration during sit down classroom work, eating meals or even riding in the car.

Weighted blankets and lap pads are made with a synthetic poly pellet that is machine washable.

The perfect weighted blanket is 10% of the body weight, plus one pound of synthetic weight. ISAAC Foundation will determine the appropriate sized blanket for your loved one once an application is submitted and approved.

Weighted Blanket Process

STEP ONE

Submit a weighted blanket application online. For step-by-step assistance, see detailed submission instructions in the product description screen.

STEP TWO

ISAAC Foundation will review the application request to verify that it meets the program criteria above. You will be notified by email if your application has been approved. This email will also contain a payment link (if applicable) for payment. Blankets and lap pads will not be sewn until payment has been made.

STEP THREE

Once payment is received by ISAAC Foundation, volunteers will begin construction of the weighted blanket or lap pad which can take up to 10 days to complete. Once the item is ready for pickup, you will be notified by email with specific pickup instructions and directions.

Conditions and Exclusions

Family must live in the ISAAC Foundation Service Area: Spokane, Stevens, Lincoln, Whitman, Pend Orielle and Kootenai Counties

Family must pickup the completed blanket or lap pad at ISAAC Foundation headquarters in Spokane, Monday through Thursday. (hours vary depending on week)

Due to cost and available resources, WEIGHTED ITEMS ARE NOT SHIPPED

Foundation only approves 20 requests for weighted items per month

Award Priority

Children with autism or other medical diagnosis

Children with unique needs or circumstances

Adults with autism or PROFOUND disability that limits their ability to live an independent life

Individuals returning an old weighted blanket or lap pad

Award communication will sent be via EMAIL.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

The interior weight is from commercial poly pellets which are machine washable. The blanket can be dried on a regular or permanent press cycle. However, we always recommend checking the blanket every 15 to 20 minutes in the dryer. The blanket may also be lined dried.

**If you have a pocket blanket, please take the bean bags out of the pockets and wash them separately in 5 pound increments.
