TREK Peer Mentors

Summer TREK Peer Mentors

Join ISAAC’s TREK program as a mentor this summer and make a meaningful impact in the lives of youth with autism, rare disorders, and developmental delays. You'll help participants explore the community, learn new skills, earn volunteer hours and build friendships through guided activities. No prior experience with neurodivergent individuals is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude!

Peer Mentor FAQs

1. What is the TREK program?
TREK stands for Teachable Moments, Reverse Inclusion, Education, and Kinship. It’s a summer program that pairs youth with autism, rare disorders, and developmental delays with teen mentors for fun, engaging activities that build social, life, and community skills.

2. What will I do as a mentor?
You’ll assist in activities like games, crafts, and outings while supporting participants as they navigate social and community experiences. Your role is to be a friend, guide, and positive role model.

3. Do I need experience working with neurodivergent people?
No! We provide all the training you need to feel confident in your role. The most important qualities are kindness, patience, and a desire to help others.

4. What if I’ve never done this type of work before?
That’s okay! TREK is designed to be a learning experience for everyone involved. You’ll have guidance from program leaders and plenty of support along the way.

5. What is the time commitment?
We ask mentors to commit to one or more full weeks of programming. Each weekly session runs Monday through Thursday, from 11AM to 3PM. Consistency is important for building strong relationships with participants, so it’s important to be available for the entire week of your chosen sessions.

6. What skills will I gain?
You’ll develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills while making a positive impact in your community. Plus, you’ll create meaningful connections with peers and participants.

7. How do I apply?
