ISAAC's Fire Safety Learning Center

ISAAC'S FIRE SAFETY LEARNING CENTER

ISAAC Foundation believes that safer encounters between first responders and individuals touched by autism and other special needs begins with developmentally appropriate education, positive experiences and plenty of practice. ISAAC’s Fire Safety Learning Center is a place for youth with disabilities to learn critical, life saving, developmentally appropriate fire safety skills and interactions so they are prepared in the event of an emergency. The Learning Center offers two unique program curricula that maximizes skill development and mastery.

SPECIAL NEEDS FRIENDS WITH FIRST RESPONDERS is a part of the program designed to help improve relationships between first responders and individuals with disabilities. Using play-based activities and visual supports, individuals with disabilities learn uniform identification, appropriate interaction skills with first responders, and how to respect the personal boundaries (bubble space) of first responders. Participants also practice interacting with response vehicles and loading and unloading for medical transport with AMR.

SPECIAL NEEDS FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION teaches developmentally appropriate fire safety education to youth in Spokane who have autism and other disabilities. The curriculum is skill-level based and offers three levels of learning. Through hands-on activities and access to ISAAC Foundation’s on-site studio apartment simulation space, each participant’s skills are measured and tracked to ensure skill progression.

Siblings and parents are invited to share in the fun and families are encouraged to attend as often as they like to maintain skills.

ONLY CHILDREN need to be registered for these visits.

PLEASE NOTE: First responder staffing must remain a top priority. Therefore, law enforcement personnel may be called away due to an emergent community safety need.
